A-Rod, Griffey and the MLB

So in one week, the MLB is swirling around former Mariner players. In recent memory, a slew of All-Stars began their career in Seattle, so why not talk about the two biggest in Mariner history? They would be Alex Rodriguez and Ken Griffey, Jr.

Well, everyone knows about A-Rod this week. Steroids, or whatever it was he took, and his cousin in the Dominican Republic acquiring the drugs on the street and shooting A-Rod up. Today, more news came out from the Dominican Republic about players lying about their age. So, what doesn't happen in the Dominican? You think Cheech could go down there and buy himself a bride and some hash?

In more interesting Mariner news, Junior Griffey is back. I'm sure there will be a ticker tape parade on Saturday to celebrate Griffey's return. And the rest of Major League Baseball doesn't care one bit. You know why? Seattle doesn't matter! They are a pitiful franchise with no real value in the league. They have no pitching staff and will be lucky if they are relevant sometime in the next ten years. And the Seattle fans don't care! That's what is so frustrating! They really don't care if they go to the playoffs as long as everyone feels good about the players on the field. They've been prancing Ichiro around that field for almost a decade now and he's done nothing to help that team win. He's one of the worst leadoff hitters in the game as far as OBP and RF is a meaningless position. Hell, I could play RF in the bigs. I can one hop it to second from the track. That's an easy throw.

Now where do the M's put Griffey? He can't possibly be the DH all year. He'll have to fill in the OF or 1B or somewhere at least during interleague play. Oh yeah! It won't matter because he'll be hurt before they reach interleague play.

Note to MLB fans like me that actually care about baseball:
I really hope the Red Sox keep our hometown boy Jeff Bailey up for most of the year. Bailey is a proven AAA hitter and he can play two or three positions. Not the fastest player on the base paths, but Jeff's got pop in his bat. Thanks to a local fundraising event a couple weeks ago, I walked away with a signed bat, ball and picture of my wife and I with Jeff and Louisville Bats (AAA) manager Rick Sweet. The bat is hanging in my office.
